Procedures - Crown Lengthening / Gingival Recontouring

Esthetic Crown Lengthening / Gingival Recontouring

An unattractive smile may be a result of excessive gum display (also known as a “gummy” smile) or an unsymmetrical gum line. The teeth may be of proper size and length, but due to a variety of reasons (genetics, medication, periodontal inflammation) the gum tissue may be overgrown or excessive.

To achieve an esthetic result, the procedure requires reshaping the gum tissue and the underlying bone. The procedure is minimally invasive and the number of teeth involved may vary.

Crown Lengthening is also used for situations where the tooth has broken down to the gum line preventing a proper fitting restoration. Again, the gum line and bone is reshaped to allow for a secure restoration.
