Periodontics for Orthodontics

Tooth Uncovery: Sometimes teeth do not erupt through the gums for a variety of reasons. With the assistance of a Periodontist, a bracket can be applied to the un-erupted tooth then which the Orthodontist brings the tooth to its normal position.
Periodontal Disease: The presence of untreated periodontal disease can lead to advancing bone loss if orthodontic movement is applied. All patients needing braces should have healthy gums prior to starting orthodontic treatment. For more information on periodontal disease, please go to the periodontal disease link.
Gingival Recession: In certain cases, certain orthodontic movements can lead or enhance gum recession. A consultation by a Periodontist will provide the patient a clearer idea as to how to treat and when to treat the gum recession in respect to when the braces are put on.
